The Art Deco Town Gardens Bowl has become a wedding venue for the first time in its 88-year history.
Bride and groom Ola Mierczynska and Danny Moody were married by Swindon Borough Council Superintendent Registrar Alison Underwood in a ceremony watched by some 180 loved ones and friends.
The Bowl is run and looked after by South Swindon Parish Council, which decided to offer it as a venue for weddings in addition to its existing roles as the venue for music, theatre and a range of community events.
Ola, an accountant, and Danny, a project manager who is also a member of well-known Swindon band The Shudders, were both delighted by their day - and by making history.
Ola said: "They said it was available for us to have the first ever wedding here, so we grabbed the opportunity to be the first couple ever to get married at the Bowl - and we did it.
"I recommend it very much!"
Danny revealed that he had been nervous in the run-up to the ceremony, and added: "I think the whole leading up to it, the months of preparation and then seeing everything come together - I'm drained!"
He said of being the first couple to marry at the Bowl: "That was important to me and Ola, and what's funny is that about four weeks ago we came past here and it looked like there was a marriage going on before us, and we were at panic stations - 'We're not the first! We're not the first!"
However it turned out the couple in question had had their ceremony elsewhere and were celebrating at the bowl.
Guests danced into the night to live music performed by bands including The Shudders and Splat the Rat.
