Home Instead Swindon and Vale of White Horse will be partnering with multiple organisations to create a new singing group to help support people's wellbeing.

A new group for fun singing is set to launch in Faringdon, thanks to at home care company, Home Instead Swindon and Vale of White Horse, Dementia Oxfordshire, the local NHS Trust and The Pump House Project.

The Pump House Project is a charity that provides a variety of low cost activities for all ages and abilities in Faringdon and the surrounding villages, in a refurbished theatre in the heart of the town centre - the Pump House.

The new 'Sing Together' group sessions will also be held at The Pump House.

‘Sing Together’ is a monthly singing session aimed at those who want to sing for fun in a relaxed environment.

The aforementioned organisations say the focus of the sessions will be enjoying singing a variety of songs from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s together as a group.

Cat Attewell, Community Engagement Officer at Home Instead Swindon & Vale of White Horse said: "Singing is fun, sociable, and good for your health. Sing Together will be a very informal session, open to all, and with a focus on wellbeing rather than ability.

“Singing together in a supportive, friendly group is uplifting, enjoyable and hugely therapeutic.”

The organisers of this new singing group say the benefits of singing have long been documented and research shows that singing alters the hormones that boost mood-state and the immune system.

Singing apparently also reduces stress, which is linked to many different health conditions.

The 'Sing Together' sessions are for adults and open to everyone. They will run from 2pm - 3.30pm at The Pump House on Swan Lane, Faringdon, on the first Friday of the month. The first session will take place on Friday 3 February.

There is no fee to join in, but donations are welcomed.
