Team Swindon Link will be trekking across the Sahara Desert next year in aid of Prospect Hospice, but editor Jamie Hill will first be tackling other fundraising challenges as part of his training.

As part of his fundraising efforts for his Sahara Desert trek and in a bid to get fit enough, Swindon Link editor Jamie Hill will be taking part in a race that will see him running 10k beneath the city of Bath.

The Two Tunnels Race takes place on Sunday, 8 May and it cuts right under the city. The Somerset & Dorset Railway closed in 1966 and until April 2013, the tunnels had been sealed and inaccessible.

But thanks to the hard work of the Two Tunnels Group and Sustrans over a period of seven years, the tunnels now have a new lease of life as a shared use path.

Jamie said: "I really am a glutton for punishment. I ran a marathon back in 2017 but I haven't put a pair of running shoes on since so this is going to be hard especially as I've essentially been lying on a sofa for the past six months.

"But it's for a good cause and I'm determined to get up to the right fitness levels to cross a ruddy desert."

Jamie has now started a tongue in cheek blog about his training on The Link's sister site www.theocelot.co.uk

So who will Jamie be taking on this desert trek with? Team Link of course!

Team Link are a four person team comprised of Kieran McCarthy, Amy O'Reilly, Laura Johnson and Jamie Hill.

The team has already started its training, going on walks around the Swindon area to prepare them for the trek that will take them more than 60 kilometres over the sands of Morocco.
