Relatives and friends of blushing brides and dashing grooms who are not able to attend their big day can now watch the nuptials in real time.
Or at least, they can if the big day is held at Swindon Register Office, which has launched a new live streaming service.
Graham Chandler and Meiry Lucia Alves were the first happy couple to take advantage of the new service when they tied the knot at the Civic Offices in Euclid Street on Monday, 27 March.
The day was especially poignant for Meiry as it meant she could share her big day with her parents and other family members and friends in her native Brazil.
Graham, who was also celebrating his 53rd birthday on his wedding day, said: “It was a lovely service and the live streaming was great as it meant that anyone who couldn’t be here, like Meiry’s parents in Brazil, could watch it.
“We also wanted our own recording of the wedding so it was perfect from that point of view.”
Family and friends filled The Garden Room at the Register Office to wish the beaming couple well, and when Graham and Meiry were declared husband and wife, a rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ rang round for Graham.
The professionally live-streamed ceremony is available to all couples getting married in The Garden Room at Swindon Register Office. Couples can share a secure link for those unable to share in the big day, while there is the option to view it online for a further 28 days.
A downloadable file is also available. Additionally, they can purchase a one-of-a-kind’ keepsake memento in DVD or USB format.
Lynn Tomlin, Deputy Superintendent Registrar at Swindon Register Office, said: “We were so happy to host Graham and Meiry’s ceremony and to be a part of their special day. Meiry looked absolutely stunning and it was lovely we were able to sing happy birthday to Graham.”
