Volunteer litter pickers joined local agencies for a community clean-up day in Broadgreen on Saturday morning (29 June).

Around 40 bags were filled with waste, whilst flytipped rubbish was also picked up from various alleyways. Further flytipping identified from the clean-up will be collected next week.

In total, more than 30 people took part in the clean-up day, which was organised by Swindon Community Safety Partnership (CSP) in collaboration with officers from Swindon Borough Council and South Swindon Parish Council.

Volunteers from the nearby Discovery Church, local residents, councillors and officers from the Swindon Central Neighbourhood Policing Team were welcomed with free breakfast baps courtesy of Trenches cafe in Kembrey Park, and given training before embarking on the three-hour tidy-up of the local neighbourhood.

A spokesperson said: “Today’s clean-up was the latest in a series of community engagement events to take place in Broadgreen, as partner agencies look to make a positive difference to the local neighbourhood.

“In March, more than 200 people attended a community engagement day organised by Swindon CSP, and spoke to local organisations about what they like about Broadgreen and what they would like to see improved.

“A subsequent week of action in the area took place to tackle anti-social behaviour, dangerous driving and drugs offences, with a number of arrests, fines and vehicle seizures taking place. Local agencies, including Wiltshire Police, have continued to have an active presence in the area to support the community.”
