Lotmead Farm in Wanborough is open for the 2021 season.
The team there promise beds bursting at the seams waiting for Swindon’s strawberry aficionados.
Over the winter, the team have been planting 40,000 strawberry plants, many of which are now ready for picking, as well as other fruits and vegetables including raspberries, sweetcorn, potatoes and runner beans, which will be available later in the season.
The play area at Lotmead has also received a boost this year, with the introduction of the Jam Lorry – a fun play lorry that builds on the existing Strawberry Thief play trail.
John Meaden, manager of Lotmead Farm, said: “We’ve now got a bumper crop of strawberries available and so this is the perfect time for strawberry lovers, and jam makers especially, to come and pick tasty, local fruit.
"We’re currently offering pickers the chance to fill one of our big baskets for just £12 too.
"These baskets can hold up to 5kg of strawberries if you pile them carefully so we’ll be easily beating supermarket prices – and you can’t get tastier than a Lotmead strawberry.
“Thanks to the cold weather in April and the wet weather in May, our crops are running later this year and so raspberries will be our next fruit ready towards the end of July.
“We have also continued investing in the play area this year and have added a new jam lorry, which is proving very popular with children, and we’ve got lots of new animals in the small animal enclosure for people to meet too.”
There is no charge for entry for strawberry picking, and pickers will be provided with punnets to fill and pay for once picked. There is an additional charge for entry to the play area, small animal enclosure and nature trail. Entry is free for those aged two and under; for 3-5-year-olds it costs £2.95, for 6-16-year-olds it is £6.95, adults pay £4.95 and seniors £3.95. Family day tickets, covering two adults and two children, are £19.95.
Booking through Lotmead’s website is currently required for weekend visits, but there is no booking needed during the week.
Lotmead is now open seven days a week from 9.30am until 5pm, but fruit availability may affect closing times.
