Swindon Police are working to track down a hoaxer who sent an email saying explosives had been placed at Lydiard Park Academy.

Officers say a message sent to the school yesterday morning - 14 May - which prompted an evacuation was a hoax and that there was no risk to anyone inside the school.

The school received an email which suggested a package containing explosives had been placed inside the premises. Officers carried out a full search and no package was found. The area was subsequently fully reopened.

Enquiries are ongoing to track down the hoaxer.

Superintendent Lucy Thorne, Swindon Commander, said: "I would like to thank the school, pupils, parents and other members of the public for their co-operation with what was undoubtedly an uncertain and frightening incident."

Officers were due at the school today - 15 May - to offer reassurance and answer questions.

Supt Thorne added: "We will be working with the school in the coming days to provide any further support that may be required."
