A branding expert has set himself the task of raising at least £1,500 this year for Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Mike Land, who runs Swindon-based Nickel Design, has started the ball rolling with a £150 donation of his own, given in lieu of sending cards and gifts to clients and contacts at Christmas.

He is promising make 10 times that amount, and will stage a 24-hour van pull to mark the £1,500 fundraising milestone.

He has also pledged that at the £2,000 mark he will take part in a skydive.

Mike said: "Wiltshire Air Ambulance is a cause very close to my heart, and they run a fantastic service, funded solely by donations. I got to know them when they invited me in to talk about branding, and I decided I wanted to help.

"I’ve been a member of Swindon Slinn Allstars Running Club for many years, and they support Wiltshire Air Ambulance too. I’d like to get to at least £1,500 and if every one of my business connections gave just £2, I would easily smash that.”

Mike is no stranger to fundraising. He has bungee jumped, run marathons and half-marathons, staged a Strictly Come Dancing evening and even abseiled down Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower, in aid of various good causes.

He is also a non-exec director of Swindon not-for-profit The Platform Project, which helps bridge the gap between education and employment for young people.

Plans for the 24-hour van pull are already under way, and Mike sys he only needs to get in sight of the £1,500 mark to finalise the date.

Naomi Barker, Corporate Partnerships Lead with Wiltshire Air Ambulance, said: “Each year we need to raise £4m to keep the helicopter flying and continue saving lives.

"We receive no regular direct Government funding or National Lottery grants, so we have to rely on generous donations from the public and local businesses, such as Nickel Design, to help support our lifesaving work.

"We’re very excited Mike has chosen to support us. We can’t wait to get involved - I’m sure the van pull is just the beginning!”
