Swindon Motorsports has announced improvements to its proposals for The Studley Grange Motorsports Hub and confirmed that a planning application will be submitted in the next few weeks.
The changes follow what the organisation terms a highly successful public consultation earlier this year, in which 84 percent of respondents expressed strong support for the proposals and agreed that the Studley Grange site is highly suitable for a motorsports facility.
The consultation received significant levels of engagement from residents across Wiltshire and Swindon, with over 180 attendees at the public exhibition event and clear support among them for the development of a new home for Swindon Speedway.
Following the end of consultation, the project team has analysed all feedback submitted and carried out additional technical surveys, both of which have influenced the further evolution of the proposals.
The following changes have been made:
Parking and access - an increase in the number of parking spaces provided by:
- Expansion of main parking area, using additional available land
- Adaption of the karting racetrack for major event overflow parking
- Creation of further major event parking using reinforced grass.
- Improved access and parking for coaches on-site, providing sustainable travel options for large events.
Facilities and amenities:
- Additional food and beverage units to provide easier and faster service and a greater range of choice for customers
- Relocation of business units away from the listed farmhouse to protect the historic environment and enhance the setting for visitors to the farmhouse
- Provision of additional covered seating terraces to enhance the visitor experience
- Rearrangement of the speedway pits and competitors parking to improve secured access and amenity
Terry Russell, Chairman of Swindon Motorsports and Swindon Speedway, said: "Following a highly successful public consultation earlier this year, during which we received overwhelming support from the public, we are delighted to be moving forward with our plans for the Studley Grange Motorsports Hub.
"We have listened to the very useful and informed feedback submitted and made changes to our proposals accordingly. These changes include an increase in the number of available parking spaces and the introduction of temporary overflow parking for the major events that we hope to stage once or twice a year.
"We have also improved access and parking for coaches, added additional facilities, and changed the site layout to ensure a positive experience for visitors, whilst keeping impact on the surrounding area to a minimum.’
"In the next few weeks, we will submit the planning application to Wiltshire Council and I urge all speedway fans to rally behind our proposals and let Wiltshire know that Swindon Needs Studley."
