Swindon Borough Council is to host a special event called My Life on Thursday 1 February at New College's North Star Campus.

Running from 10am to 4pm, it is for young people aged 14-plus with additional needs as they prepare for adult life, along with their parents, carers and professionals who support them.

The aim of the event, which will be attended by Mayor of Swindon Cllr Barbara Parry, is to raise awareness of the range of support available to young people with additional needs who may require extra and sometimes specialist support to help them to prepare for adulthood.

People from many of these services will be on hand to offer information and advice.

There will be 250 young people aged 14-plus with additional needs visiting from Swindon schools, along with parents, carers and professionals.

All will see the broad range of stallholders from statutory and volunteer services across Swindon that support young people, in areas such as education, employment and training, good health, independent living, social life and community.

The event is billed as a great opportunity to have informal face-to face conversations with different organisations, and a chance to hear more about the services and opportunities that they provide for young people with additional needs as they reach adulthood.

There will be free parking at New college on the day, and hot drinks will be available.
