Festival of Archaeology comes to Avebury

The National Trust is calling on history lovers, families and curious explorers to take part in the UK’s largest archaeological celebration, the Festival of Archaeology 2026, running in Avebury on 28 July.

Organised in partnership with the Council for British Archaeology, the annual festival offers a nationwide programme of engaging events designed to bring the past to life.  

From hands-on excavations and interactive dig boxes to expert-led talks and guided walks, visitors will have the chance to uncover the stories hidden beneath some of the UK’s most treasured landscapes and heritage sites.

Festival of Archaeology Day  

The Festival of Archaeology Day will include digging for buried treasures in our sandpit digs, and the chance to get creative by crafting your own nature-inspired designs on clay tablets.
