A wide-ranging public consultation has been launched by the Diocese of Bristol as it prepares for the retirement of Bishop of Bristol The Rt Revd Vivienne Faull on 1 September.
The Diocese, of which many Swindon churches are part, wants help in finding the right person to replace her.
The Rt Revd Neil Warwick, Bishop of Swindon, said: “This is a pivotal moment for our Diocese. We want to hear from you. We have an active church in every community and they’re having a positive impact in people’s lives. That’s why hearing from you and as manypeople as possible is vital.
"Whether you are part of a church community or simply care about the role of Church in your community. Your voice will help us discern the qualities and vision we need in our next Bishop of Bristol.”
The Bishop of Bristol plays a vital role in leading the Church’s mission across Bristol, Swindon, South Gloucestershire and North Wiltshire. Bishops are called to care for their communities, confront injustice and work for peace and reconciliation.
The Vacancy in See Committee (the group responsible for leading the consultation), is committed to a transparent and inclusive process. The online survey is open to all; whilst creative contributions, and in-person focus groups are also taking place for accessibility purposes.

The feedback gathered will inform the Statement of Needs - a key document that guides the selection of the next bishop.
Richard Bacon, Chair of the Vacancy in See Committee, said: “It is vital that we take this opportunity to listen deeply to voices both within and beyond the Church. We [the committee] are dedicated to ensuring this process welcomes input from all backgrounds and perspectives to truly reflect the hopes of our diverse Diocese.”
