West Swindon Parish Council has announced the installation of four new 24-hour public access defibrillators across the area.

The lifesaving initiative has been made possible through the council’s efforts and generous community donations. Each defibrillator is equipped with a bleed treatment kit, providing an essential resource for treating significant bleeding injuries in emergencies.

These defibrillators are being installed at:

  • Delta Tennis Centre, Westlea: Made possible with an amazing £2,000 donation from Swindon Lions.
  • Shaw Village Centre, Ramleaze Drive: Supported by donations from Richard James Estate Agents, Bleu Beauty, Shaw Chiropractors and the Parish Council
  • Woodlands Edge Pub, Peatmoor: Parish Council funded.
  • The Hub, Toothill Village Centre: Parish Council funded.

Cllr Rose Llewellyn, Chair of West Swindon Parish Council, expressed her gratitude to the community, Swindon Lions and local businesses for their support.

She said: "This project shows what we can achieve when we come together as a community. I would like to thank the Woodlands Edge Pub, Holy Trinity Church, Delta Tennis Centre, and The Hub Toothill for hosting these defibrillators in key locations that ensure 24-hour access.

“Defibrillators and bleed kits can save lives, and having these resources in place is a vital step in making West Swindon a safer place for everyone."

In the event of an emergency, dial 999 immediately. The operator will provide guidance, including the location of the nearest defibrillator and instructions on accessing and using the equipment.

To raise awareness, Westlea Fire Station have offered a drop-in session on first aid essentials (Wednesday 11 Dec: 3.00-5.00)

Residents can also learn vital first aid skills online through the British Red Cross: www.redcross.org.uk/first-aid/learn-first-aid/videos.

This is one of the most important projects delivered by the Parish Council to date, and work will continue to maintain this equipment and ensure more residents have access to these lifesaving tools.
