Museum & Art Swindon has been announced as the new name for Swindon Museum and Art Gallery.
The museum, housed for many years in Apsley House at the junction of Victoria Road and Bath Road, is in the process of moving to new quarters on the refurbished first floor of the Civic Offices in Euclid Street.
Museum & Art Swindon is due to open in Spring.
The change of name and logo is described by Swindon Borough Council as an exciting step towards revitalising and celebrating Swindon’s acclaimed collection of history and modern and contemporary British art.
A spokesperson said: "What does our new logo symbolise? The layers of history that make-up Swindon, all the way from the Jurassic period to today. The layers of paint from the many artworks within our collections.
"The blue is inspired by our previous logo and demonstrates us evolving from our past into our future."
The museum's collection of artefacts spans a period from the era before the dinosaurs to the 21st century, and its collection of 20th century British art has been widely hailed by experts as the finest outside London.
