Two officers were assaulted while attending an incident in Swindon early this morning (02/07).

Officers were called to Whitbourne Avenue shortly after midnight following a report of a disorder at an address.

A man in his 20s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of common assault – he then became violent and assaulted two officers – one of these officers required a check-up at hospital after being kicked in the back of the head and subsequently had to go off duty.

A second male – aged 17 – attended the address during the arrest and became obstructive in an attempt to prevent the arrest. He was arrested on suspicion of obstructing a police officer in the execution of duty.

Both males are currently in custody in Gablecross police station for further questioning.

Insp Steve Love said: “This kind of behaviour towards officers is completely unacceptable and the actions of this individual led to one officer having to go home to recover. Officers should not be subjected to this kind of abuse as they go about their duties to keep the public safe.”
