As part of the UK-wide effort to tackle the climate crisis and to get closer to net zero, Swindon is playing it's part with a tree planting at Highworth.

After the successful planting of 10,000 trees in the area last year, 10,000 more trees have been planted at Pentylands Country Park in Highworth.

The trees were planted last month in Big Forty, and Shill Furlong at the park.

Organised by the Friends of Pentylands Country Park, local residents and groups came together to plant the trees with a total of 1,353 volunteers helping over three weekends.

The woodlands are being funded through the DEFRA’s Trees for Climate initiative, with the new planting being managed as a partnership between Great Western Community Forest and the Friends Of Pentylands group.

Ken Saunders, Chair of the Friends of Pentylands Country Park, said: “It’s fantastic that another 10,000 trees have been planted in Pentylands Country Park. This is another positive step towards saving the planet.

“The latest plantings bring the total to over 30,000 trees, jointly planted in the Park by the Highworth community and the Great Western Community Forest.”
