A Swindon non-profit organisation is to host a fashion show as part of its work helping disadvantaged and vulnerable young people.
The Platform Project helps the young people they work with develop the skills, experience and confidence they need to stay in education and go on to launch successful careers.
Set to take place on Saturday, 6 August from 7pm, the event is billed as one of the largest fashion shows Swindon has seen in years.
It will be held at MECA with capacity for more than 300 attendees plus stallholders, and the organisers say it will be a night of fun, fashion and some much-needed fundraising for the Platform Project.
The show is the brainchild of the young people at the project, supported by their team of staff and volunteers. The night will be run by them and act as the launch of the Project’s latest youth-led business – a dress agency, where students will be selling unwanted evening dresses on behalf of donors.
Platform Project’s Founder Sadie Sharp said: “We love seeing the success of our young people and this fashion show really showcases what they can do. We want as many people as we can to get involved, no matter how big or small as it would mean the world to them.
"We’re helping them to develop though real practical experiences, led by their passions and excitement and enabling them to build a future they truly want.”
The Platform Project is asking for support from the people and businesses of Swindon, such as through sponsorship, buying tickets, donating an evening dress, donating prizes for the auction and raffle or taking a trader stall. Participants will be able to buy items and bid for those up for auction on the night.
