Two arrested for driving offences after police car rammed in Swindon

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of multiple driving offences following an incident in Swindon today.

Officers attempted to stop a Volkswagen Golf seen to be driving at excess speed with no valid insurance in the Pinehurst area. 

The vehicle was stopped in Cirencester Way, and then reverse rammed a police car in Firethorn Close.

Two men were detained - a 42-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent. He was taken to Gablecross custody for questioning.

A 38-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, drug driving  and driving whilst disqualified. He was initially taken to the Great Western Hospital as a precaution before being taken to Gablecross custody.

Recovery was arranged for both the Volkswagen Golf and the police vehicle. No officers were injured. 

Anyone who witnessed the Volkswagen Golf being driven on Cirencester Way, or the collision itself, should call 101 and quote log number 141 of February 21.
