Wiltshire Police officer Laura Hughes will compete this week at the London International Horse Show—one of the UK’s premier equestrian events—riding her horse, Paul.
Originally part of the reserve team, Laura and Paul were called up at short notice and will now compete in the prestigious event on December 18.
Laura said: “I am so excited and honoured to represent Wiltshire Police at one of the most prestigious shows in the UK. I never dreamed of qualifying on my first attempt, within my first year of competing as a Police Officer—and while riding my horse bitless! Luckily his mouth injury has healed now, so I’ll actually have some brakes this time.
"I’ve not had much time to prepare as Paul has only just returned from his month-long winter break, so expectations are low. However, I’m looking forward to giving him a positive learning experience, competing alongside professionals and soaking up the electric atmosphere.”
