Last month, the Swindon Highways Team fixed more than 1,000 potholes across the Borough.
A spokesperson for the council said: “In an ideal world, we would have the funding and capability to fully repair all local roads, but limited resources mean that local roads are not at the standards we want to see.
“Between now and March 2026 we will spend £2.75m on planned maintenance and resurfacing of major and minor roads across the Borough. In 2024/25, we spent just over £2m on the same work.
“We’ll also spend £170,000 on reactive pothole repairs where they are needed and reported over the next year.”
In April, 1,040 potholes were repaired across the Borough. Of these:
- 519 were fixed within five working days of being reported
- 999 were identified by our team of five highway inspectors who regularly check 522 miles of Swindon’s roads, all 646 miles of paths/pavements and 76 miles of cycle paths
- 41 defects reported by residents were repaired, after being assessed against a standard measurement criteria used by many local authorities
