This May, a group of around 50 volunteers will meet to conduct a litter pick to mark the King's Coronation and to take part in the 'Big Help Out' scheme.
The litter pick will take place on Monday 8 May, with all the volunteers meeting up at the Purton Village Hall.
The Big Help Out is a national initiative that has been organised by several voluntary organisations including the Scouts, to encourage members of the public to 'join in, lend a hand, and make a change.' Organisers have hopes that the Big Help Out will drive up numbers of volunteers both now and in the future.
The Purton litter pick will start at 10.15am and volunteers will meet outside the Village Hall for a safety briefing.
Gloves, litter pickers, bags, hoops, and high vis jackets will be provided. There will also be a team photo taken of all individuals who took part.
This Big Help Out Litter Pick has been organised by volunteer Anne Maddison, a local resident, and Project Manager, who says she is keen to reduce littering in Purton in both the immediate and longer term.
Working closely with Purton Parish Council, Wiltshire Council and IDverde to ensure that all is in place, Anne said: “The King’s Coronation provides a perfect platform to encourage Purton residents to Litter pick on 8 May. I’m hoping that by leading the way this will become a regular activity for many Purton residents, so that we can all keep our beautiful rural Wiltshire Village looking its very best.”
Those looking to get involved can go along to the Pips Community Café, Silver Threads Hall, High Street Purton, on Thursday 4 May between 3pm - 4pm or Friday 5 May between 12 - 2pm to sign up or email Anne at: [email protected].
After the litter pick event, volunteers can go along to the Pips Community Café for refreshments.
