A Swindon man is currently in custody following a ram raid at a store in Marlborough last night (3/3)

Police were called to Screwfix in Blenheim Road at approximately 8.45pm following a report that a vehicle had reversed into the store window.

A description of the vehicle was passed to officers who located it heading towards Swindon. The vehicle, believed to be stolen, failed to stop for officers and continued at speed.

It eventually came to a stop in Merlin Way and multiple tools were found inside the vehicle.

A 36-year-old man from Swindon was arrested on suspicion of burglary, failing to stop and Section 4 unfit to drive through drink or drugs.

He has been taken to Gablecross custody for further questioning.

Sgt James Robbins said: “Thanks to the excellent and swift actions of a member of the public who was nearby at the time, officers were able to locate the damaged vehicle heading towards Swindon and eventually bring it to a stop.

“A number of suspected stolen goods were recovered inside the vehicle and one man is now in custody awaiting questioning.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, or saw a black Vauxhall Zafira being driven in a suspicious manner in Marlborough yesterday evening.

“Our enquiries into the incident are currently ongoing and we would appreciate any further information from the public which could assist our investigation.”
