Swindon people are being urged to use the borough council's recycling services as much as possible over the Christmas period.
A spokesperson said: "It’s easy to over-indulge at Christmas, but with careful planning you can reduce waste and save money.
"Remember that any leftover potatoes, vegetables, and peelings can be placed in your food waste caddy for your weekly collection.
"If you live in a property with a communal bin store and don’t yet have this service, then please place it in your general waste (unless you’re making bubble and squeak of course)."
The local authority is also reminding people that from Christmas Day all collections will move by two working days, to make sure the council can provide the smoothest possible collection services at the crews' busiest time of year.
The spokesperson added: "By shifting collection days, we will prevent the backlog of 40,000 collections that has previously been created by the Christmas bank holidays, and allow our teams to continue to collect waste as they would normally.
"These are permanent changes to collection days throughout 2025 and are not just for Christmas. You can check your new collection days and receive further information about the changes by clicking below."
