Retro Games HQ (based within Holmes Music) aims to host gaming evenings for public soon into the new year.
Owner Pete started buying and selling in video games back in the 1990’s within the store he previously owned, Fantasia Consoles.
After 12 years Pete closed Fantasia Consoles for personal reasons. 16 years later he came back to his passion for retro gaming and reopened a store, rebranding as Retro Games HQ.
For start up stock, Pete used his own personal collection he had built prior.
He said: "Since opening in 2014 I have grown a fantastic reputation in the retro gaming community and have had visitors from all over the UK.
"I’ve even had visitors from Australia/New Zealand who were holidaying in the UK at the time and made a special trip to Swindon to get a retro fix. I’ve recently expanded the shop to give customers the wow factor and the response has been fantastic."
Pete now has a huge amount of stock and plans for growing his business into something more than just a store to buy retro games and gaming accessories.
He added: "I’ve been told numerous times by my customers that I have one of the best displays in the UK and that it’s a cross between a museum and a shop. I have also recently added 3 Arcade cabinets for customers to play in and there’s a bigger gaming area coming very soon.
"In the new year I will be running some retro gaming evenings at the shop, which I hope will bring the retro gaming community in Swindon together. I want to create a place for people to meet up with like-minded collectors and gamers."
