The Ridgeway Hospital, part of Circle Health Group, took part in a series of fundraising activities to support Swindon Women’s Aid (SWA) and Swindon Sisters Alliance CIC.
The partnership with the two well-known local charities was part of the hospital’s ‘giving something back initiative.’
So far, the fundraising activities from December 2021 have raised £103.30, with plans in place to continue throughout 2022.
Staff and clinicians at the Ridgeway took a vote and decided that SWA and Swindon Sisters Alliance would be the hospitals partnered charities for 2022.
Kate Liddington, Executive Director of Ridgeway Hospital, said: “We are delighted to have been able to support Swindon Sands and Swindon Women’s aid. Both charities do incredible work in our community and continue to make a difference to lives of the people they help. We are looking forward to organising more ambitious fundraising activities throughout 2022.”
Swindon Women’s Aid was established in 1975 and was one of the first operational refuges of its kind outside London. The charity is committed to empowering and supporting victims and survivors of domestic abuse through a range of services. The organisation also plays a proactive role in raising awareness and informing policy on subjects relating to domestic abuse.
Swindon Sisters alliance is a not-for-profit set up with the goal of helping families affected by domestic abuse. This includes mental health-related, to domestic violence where homicide and suicide were the outcome.
The ‘giving something back’ initiative was launched in 2021 and encouraged staff and doctors across Circle Health Group hospitals to select a charity in the community they work in to support throughout the year. All money raised locally will then be matched by Circle Health Group up to £2,000.
One of the goals set by staff at the hospital was to fill as many boxes with toys, toiletries, warm clothes and other key essentials as possible. In total, staff managed to fill 8 large boxes which were then passed onto the team at SWA in Swindon. The items donated by staff and doctors went along way to providing support to the most vulnerable in the community.
To raise funds for SSA (Swindon Sisters Alliance) staff at Ridgeway decided to hold a tombola, with teams from the clinical and administrative sides of the hospital donating prizes. In total, the tombola raised over £100 for families in need across Swindon.
The Ridgeway Hospital says there are currently plans to continue fundraising activity for both charities throughout 2022.
