A man from Swindon has jailed after causing major disruption in Swindon when he refused to come down from the roof of a building.

Constantin Turcanu, 29, of no fixed abode appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court on May 28 and pleaded guilty to intentionally/recklessly causing a public nuisance.

He was imprisoned for 16 weeks.

On Sunday 25 May Turcanu climbed out of a window around 8.20am and onto a building roof in Newhall Street.  He remained there for most of the day.

Local Crime Investigator Greenaway said: "Constantin Turcanu took up valuable police time as he put himself and the public in danger. Wasting police or other emergency services time - or misusing our services - is taken very seriously.

"The general public’s best interest is in the forefront of what we do on a day-to-day basis and I am pleased that Turcanu has been held accountable for his actions."

Turcanu was sentenced to eight weeks in prison for intentionally/recklessly causing a public nuisance, 12 weeks concurrent for breaching a suspended sentence, and 16 weeks for a revoked community order.
