Swindon Borough Council has announced that the town will be getting one of the trees that made up the Tree of Trees that was part of the Queen's Green Canopy initiative.
Heatherwick Studio created the Tree of Trees sculpture for the Queen's Jubilee back in June.
It was placed outside of Buckingham Palace and was made up of 350 small trees on a steel structure. It was illuminated as part of a chain of 1,500 beacons that were lit across the UK for the Jubilee.
Swindon will be receiving one of the trees that made up the sculpture.
A spokesperson for Swindon Borough Council said: "We’re really excited to have been chosen as one of 300 organisations to receive a special tree from the Queen's Green Canopy Tree of Trees.
"The tree will be gifted in a pot embossed with Her Late Majesty’s cypher."
Swindon's tree has been donated to the town, thanks to the Steam - Museum of the Great Western Railway volunteers, who helped administer the covid-19 vaccine programme.
The council says the planting ceremonies will take place this autumn, with further details to be announced.
