Swindon Borough Council's Holiday Activities and Food Programme (HAF) saw 5,892 places booked over the Easter holidays.
Just before the holidays, more than 8,350 invitations were sent to parents of eligible children to join the programme.
Eligible children include those in receipt of benefits-related free school meals, children in need (must have a social worker working with the child) and young carers.
This unlocked free activities for children to enjoy over the school break. All children who took part also got a free healthy meal each day. Activities included, fencing, football, art and crafts, and cheerleading.
Children who take up a place at a free holiday club have the opportunity to:
- Eat more healthily over the school holidays, with a meal provided at each session
- Be more active, by being involved in physical activities and a range of engaging and enriching activities to develop resilience, character and wellbeing
- Be safe and not socially isolated over holiday periods
- Most importantly, have fun with friends
Of the 8,350 invitations, 3,188 vouchers were redeemed and 5,892 places were booked over the holidays.
