Council work experience programme helps people boost their employability

Swindon Borough Council has given an update on a a supported internship programme that helps young people with a learning disability, autism or both.

Participants gain real work experience and develop the skills they need for paid employment.

The council is a strong supporter of the David Forbes-Nixon Family Charitable Foundation (DFN Foundation) Project SEARCH.

One of the interns, who has been gaining customer services experience while helping members of the public, said: “I joined Project SEARCH to gain more work experience to help me get a paid job after I graduate. 

"During my time on Project SEARCH I have improved my communication skills and started to learn all about interview skills.”

A council spokesperson said: "We’ve been lucky to welcome several amazing interns through the programme and we’ll be welcoming even more later this year."
