A Swindon Borough Council team are repairing a sinkhole near the Wilts & Berks Canal.
The specialists from the Highway Assets department have been assessing the sinkhole which recently appeared on the canal bank above a culvert carrying the River Ray below the historic waterway Wichelstowe.
It was discovered by a Wilts & Berks Canal Trust work party who alerted the council.
A temporary dam has been put in place as a precautionary measure to prevent the canal potentially emptying through the sinkhole if further deterioration were to occur.
The team are investigating the cause and in the process of conducting repairs.
