A man caught driving at excess speed on the M4 in the early hours of this morning has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
At approximately 1.10am today (28/8), Roads Policing officers observed a grey BMW M4401 heading east from junction 16 at high speed.
The same vehicle was observed travelling at speeds between 130mph and 140mph between junction 15 and Membury Services.
The vehicle was stopped at the services and a roadside drugs wipe test was conducted which was positive for cannabis.
The driver – a man in his 20s from London – was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and fraud by false representation after a substantial amount of cash and bank cards were located inside the vehicle.
A 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old man both from London were also arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation.
All three men remain in custody in Gablecross for questioning.
Sgt Will Ayres, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “The vehicle immediately caught our attention due to the excessive speeds that it was travelling at.
“Driving at these speeds, and whilst under the influence of drugs is extremely selfish and dangerous and puts the lives of road users at serious risk.”
Wiltshire Police are currently running a Road Safety Summer Campaign which carries the message there is #NoExcuse to commit any of the Fatal Five offences on our roads.
