Swindon Borough Council has announced that a further 23 schools will benefit from its School Safe Environment Zone Scheme (SSEZ) this year.
Since the launch of the scheme in October 2020, 50 schools have already seen a range of behavioural change initiatives, engineering and enforcement measures introduced to improve road safety outside and on the approach to each school.
The measure include school keep clear markings, single and double yellow lines and the introduction of three School Streets. The School Street initiative involves roads outside a school having a temporary restriction on motorised traffic at school drop-off and pick up times.
Initial investigations have been completed and preliminary designs are avaliable to view online.
The council will spend £177,000 to introduce similar measure to extra schools including waiting restrictions, reduced speed limits, cycling facilities, a footway extension and a further School Street.
