This year, the South Swindon Parish Council will be expanding its community facilities into Badbury Park, after being offered a space by the developers.
Persimmon Homes, one of the lead developers of Badbury Park in Swindon, have offered the South Swindon Parish Council a community facility space.
The facility will be located on Homington Avenue, opposite the new retail unit and near to the play area and primary school.
The parish council undertook a online consultation last year to gather public views on what Swindon residents wanted to see from any community facilities in this area.
305 people were said to have responded to the consultation - of which 92% believed there was a need for a community space within Badbury Park.
The online consultation was also said to have identified a community library as a new amenity that local residents would like to see in Badbury Park. As a result, the parish council say alongside the bookable community space, the community centre will also host a library.
A spokesperson from the parish council said: "We currently run the very successful Old Town Library where we have a fantastic children’s library with events and activities for people of all ages to enjoy. We will be looking to replicate this in Badbury Park.
"We are currently in the process of hiring a Community Facilities Officer to oversee the running of the new community facility and Broadgreen Community Centre, which we hope to reopen soon."
