Swindon Police are appealing for witness to an assault that happened outside The White Hart pub in Stratton at around 11.15am on 31 January.
A force spokesperson said: "A 21-year-old man suffered serious injuries during an attack following a verbal dispute inside the venue.
"The suspect reportedly assaulted the victim as soon as he exited the pub before running along Oxford Road towards Greenbridge Retail Park."
The suspect is described as a 19-year-old white male, approximately 5ft9ins, with a dark beard, jeans, jacket and a beanie. He was with a group of his friends, one of whom was a ginger male.
Investigating officers would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the assault or the previous dispute.
