Local charity Swindon & Wiltshire Pride have announced details of this summer’s festival, which will be held on 12 August.

The festival moved to Queens Park last year, with thousands said to have taken part in the celebrations that included the first pride march in the town since the start of the pandemic.

Following on from the positive response to the new location, the Swindon & Wiltshire Pride team have confirmed a return in August with a landmark anniversary celebration.

The first Swindon Pride was held in 2008. The festivities then expanded to include the rest of Wiltshire the following year, and the team say it has become one of the key events of the summer in the town.

Chairperson Ashley Boyd said: “We’re all so excited to celebrate our 15th anniversary this year in style with our loyal Pride supporters! Our committee are hard at work on the plans and we are excited to confirm we’ll be back on Saturday 12th August at Queens Park.”

“South Swindon Parish Council manages the park, and we’re proud to work alongside them to deliver the event. As well as being a lot of fun, this will be a day to show that we are a proud and diverse community. Pride is a celebration of many different cultures, and everyone will be welcome to join us!”

Nationwide Building Society were the main sponsor for the festival last year, and the charity are now inviting requests from businesses and organisations interested in supporting the local LGBTQ+ communities for this year's event.

The Pride festival is run by volunteers, and individuals interested in volunteering are encouraged to contact Swindon & Wiltshire Pride.
