Swindon's Deputy Mayor has opened the town's new Kwik Fit Centre, which is located in Cheney Manor.
Swindon’s deputy mayor has officially opened Kwik Fit’s newest centre with a ribbon cutting.
The UK’s leading automotive service and repair company has opened its third Swindon centre, and Deputy Mayor Cllr Barbara Parry joined manager Daryl Bown and the team at a ceremony to mark the event.
The centre is the first new Kwik Fit to be opened in the South West for more than a decade, and to further mark the opening, this Saturday - 3 September - sees a treat for motor racing fans.
On display at the centre will be one of the leading cars from the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship, NAPA Racing UK’s Ford Focus ST, the car driven by reigning BTCC champion Ash Sutton.
There will also be the opportunity for any budding race fans to test their own driving skills in Mobil’s Formula 1 simulator, which will be at the centre from 8.30am - 2.30pm.
Attendees will be able to take on the challenging Brands Hatch circuit, which is where the BTCC will be decided in a few weeks’ time. While no trophies are at stake on Saturday, the driver with the fastest lap will win four tickets to see the BTCC at Silverstone on 25 September.
Staff say the F1 simulator works on a first come, first served basis, and the minimum height to participate is approximately five feet due to the positioning of the controls.
The centre, based within Cheney Manor Industrial Estate, joins the company’s centres in Great Western Way and County Road in serving Swindon’s motorists.
The centre will provide Kwik Fit’s full range of products and services including tyres, brakes, servicing and MOTs. As well as cars, the centre can accommodate light commercial vehicles (LCVs).
With the centre open seven days a week, this is said to be good news for businesses who rely on their vans to carry out their trade and cannot afford for their vehicle to be off the road any longer than necessary.
Deputy Mayor Cllr Barbara Parry said: "I'm delighted to have been able to open the new Kwik Fit Centre in the town, and to meet Daryl and his team. It is very clear that the company has made a significant investment in the centre, and by adding to its existing successful locations in Swindon, it's obvious that Kwik fit has confidence in the town's future growth.
"I was also very impressed to learn about the company's training and apprenticeship programmes, which play such an important role in giving people valuable skills and career opportunities."
Manager of Kwik Fit Cheney Manor, Daryl Bown, said: “This is a fantastic centre. As it’s brand new, all our equipment is the very latest available, which will help us support Swindon’s motorists with whatever they need. We have a team of six and we are all looking forward to keeping the town’s drivers safe on the road, wherever their journeys are taking them.”
The new centre can be found at Unit 3 Lynton Rd, Cheney Manor Industrial Estate, Swindon SN2 2QJ and the team can be contacted by phone on 01793 685805 or online at www.kwik-fit.com.
