Swindon Green Parish Councillor Bradley Williams has called for developer Crest Nicholson to finish their current development in Tadpole Garden Village before embarking on a new one.

Crest Nicholson are beginning the first stages of a public consultation for a new development called Burcot Farm, which would be situated between Tadpole Garden Village and Abbey Farm.

410 homes are planned for the development.

Cllr Williams says he knows only too well the problems that residents continue to face in Tadpole Garden Village years after the houses were built.

He says he has long campaigned to have unfinished roads completed and recently organised a petition that has attracted almost 500 signatures calling on Swindon Borough Council to publish timelines and plans for current and future development in the area, as a result of safety concerns over unfinished works.

Cllr Williams said: “It amazes me that Crest Nicolson want to start a new development in Tadpole when they cannot finish their current one. There are a range of roadworks and green spaces still not complete and parts of The Stray are still not accessible to wheelchair users.

“The proposed new development would build on green areas, which would have a negative impact on our wildlife. There could also be drainage issues from the fields in extreme weather.

“If Crest Nicholson want to go ahead with this development, Swindon Borough Council should ask them to deliver at least 10% biodiversity net gain, which is due to come into force under the 2021 Environment Act.

“Residents who have heard this news today will also be concerned about the added pressure on local schools, hospitals, and GP surgeries that the new development would bring, and Crest Nicholson will need to be clear on how these issues would be addressed.”

A spokesperson from Crest Nicholson released a statement:

“Crest Nicholson continue to work closely with the local Council on completion plans for Tadpole Garden Village. Progress continues to be made across the development, with further works planned next year. Once complete the areas will be handed over to the Council or to the management company for ongoing upkeep.”
