Around 1000 poppies are again being placed on lampposts along some of Swindon’s busiest roads as the town prepares to honour the fallen.
Council teams have already started putting the poppies in place ahead of Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day.
Cllr Nick Gardiner, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “The poppies were well received by the public when we installed them last year and I’m pleased that we’re putting them up again.
“They are a simple but powerful way for us to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, while also recognising everyone who has served, or continues to serve, in our Armed Forces.
“I hope seeing the poppies across the borough will encourage people to take a moment to reflect and pay their respects.”
Founded in 1921, the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal raises vital funds to support serving personnel, veterans and their families.
A Remembrance Sunday Service is taking place on Sunday 8 November at the Cenotaph in Regent Circus, starting at 10.45am.
There is also a Remembrance Day Service at the Cenotaph on Armistice Day on Wednesday, 11 November, from 10.55am.
