A Project Worker for the Sex Worker Outreach Programme at The Nelson Trust has been recognised at the Wiltshire Police Force Awards.

Swindon based Carmella Carchedi, known to many as Mela, has been given the Chief Constable's certificate of recognition for members of the public at the awards ceremony at the Corn Exchange, Devizes on June 4, in honour of her exceptional courage, selflessness, and unwavering commitment to the welfare of others.

Carmella has directly saved numerous lives, often in the most challenging of circumstances. On multiple occasions, she has identified individuals in critical health crises, administered life-saving Naloxone, performed CPR, and ensured those in need received urgent medical care. Her actions have not only prevented fatalities but have also given many the opportunity to recover and rebuild.

Carmella’s dedication goes far beyond what could ever be expected of a member of the public. Whether it was supporting an unconscious woman in the street, making 11 separate emergency calls for one vulnerable individual, her instinct has always been to act, to care, and to save.

Each life saved is a testament to her bravery, compassion, and the immense difference one person can make.
