Saturday 31 May will see a major historic milestone long awaited by the Hindu community of Swindon and Wiltshire.

The consecration ceremony of Lord of the Universe Mahaprabhu Shree Jagannatha ji will be held at Swindon Hindu Temple in the town centre from 10:30am until 3pm.
The Temple will join only a handful in the United Kingdom and the world to have Mahaprabhu Shree Jagannath in the temple altar.
In the Hindu faith, Mahaprabhu Jagannatha is beyond space and time and a symbol of universal love and brotherhood, and a Temple spokesperson explained that thousands of Hindus would soon be blessed to embrace the divine presence of Shri Jagannath Mahaprabhu in Swindon every day, and be able to offer true obeisance, seek his divine blessings and infuse their daily life with peace, purpose and profound connection to the spiritual realm.
The spokesperson added: "A team of 30 volunteers have been working for over a month to prepare for this historic event. The idols of Lord Jagannath, his brother and sister as well as several artefacts have been specially flown from India for this occasion.
"Several hundreds of devotees from Swindon and around the country are expected to attend this auspicious Jagannath Murti Sthapana ceremony with traditional rituals, prayers, and cultural performances, followed by community feast or prasadam."
