A drink driver from Swindon has been given a three year driving ban.
Philip O ‘Driscoll, 57, of Thornbridge Avenue, appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court on June 2 and pleaded guilty to drink driving.
On October 2, 2023, O’Driscoll was driving a Skoda Octavia when he crashed near to the Plough Inn, Chiseldon. He attempted to drive the damaged vehicle but members of the public stopped him and stayed with him until police arrived.
He was arrested and taken to custody.
As well as the three year disqualification, he was fined £300 and ordered to pay CPS costs of £250 and a £124 victim surcharge.
T/Det Con Sean Williams said: “Drink driving is one of the fatal five offences on our roads – it is incredibly lucky that nobody was seriously injured as a result of O’Driscoll’s driving. I am pleased he has been given a driving ban and would encourage members of the public to contact us immediately if they are aware of any disqualified drivers getting behind the wheel of a car.”
