Voluntary Action Swindon has received funding from the Veteran’s Foundation to employ a Veteran Support Worker.
The organisation says it will also be looking for volunteer veterans, or those with an understanding of the needs of veterans, to support the project.
The role is being funded initially for one year by the Veterans’ Foundation, and VAS hopes to be able to attract further funding to continue beyond the funded year.
VAS says that, as someone with lived experience, the worker will know the issues that can affect veterans in Swindon as well as the type of support that would be welcome.
A spokesperson said: "The purpose of the post will be to carry out research and mapping of charities and other organisations in Swindon, as well as statutory services and networks that provide support to or improve outcomes for veterans.
"The aim is to form a Veterans Forum that will identify gaps and pull together services to develop a strategy for veteran provision across Swindon."
