The cause of a fire which badly damage four houses in West Swindon is being investigated.

The alarm was raised at 3.14pm yesterday - 14 July - and at the height of the blaze about 50 firefighters were on the scene in Walter Close.

They used hose reels, main lines and an aerial ladder platform to tackle the flames. No injuries were reported, and the properties were evacuated.

Fire and rescue service group manager Stuart Gillion said during the incident: “It is not currently clear how this fire started but once it is extinguished, we will begin an investigation.

"Our crews are working hard with colleagues from Wiltshire Police and Swindon Borough Council to ensure the safety of residents and prevent the fire spreading further.”
