West Swindon Parish Council have announced the official opening of the new West Wheels Track in Rivermead.

After many years of planning, the West Swindon Parish Council have officially opened the new West Wheels Track.

The track is an extension which complements the existing, and popular, skate park in Rivermead. It has been designed for all wheels, including wheelchair users.

Featuring gentle slopes for beginners, and start areas for advanced users with steeper drops, West Wheels Tracks invites users of all ages and abilities.

The track was a project spearheaded by local councillors Suresh Gattapur and Tim Makofu, who wanted to give their community a recreational facility accessible to all. Specifically aimed at local youth, cllrs Suresh and Tim, along with the West Swindon Parish Council, say they hope it will inspire the local community to engage in physical activity and to stay active.

Suresh and Tim consistently campaigned and fundraised for this new track development, going door to door in their local community of West Swindon.

West Swindon Parish Council also received a substantial funding boost from Crapper &S ons Ltd. for the extension of the skatepark with a multi wheels track.

The money was made available through the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF) which is administered for Crapper & Sons Ltd. by Community First, the Rural Community Council for Wiltshire.

The opening celebration featured demonstrations from professional BMX riders, goodie giveaways and food was provided by the local community.
