North Swindon MP Will Stone has joined the Backbench Business Select Committee.
The committee is designed to give opportunities to backbench Members of Parliament to bring forward debates that are close to their hearts.
The committee can consider any subject for debate, including local or national campaigns, petitions and concerns raised by the general public.
Mr Stone said: "It’s an honour to serve on this important committee. Much of the time in Parliament is taken up delivering on the Government's agenda, which makes which other debates in the House are chosen all the more important.
"In this role I look forward to shaping the debates we have in the House of Commons and ensure we take the time to review the most pressing and important issues that effect both the people of Swindon North and the country as a whole.”
The Backbench Business Select Committee has in the past given time for debates on precise issues such contaminated blood and US-UK mutual defence agreements as well as wider-ranging questions such as those relating to Living with Dementia.
Therefore, the Committee’s role is to ensure what matters to MPs and their constituents has the chance to be debated in the Chamber.
