The Labour MP joined the Blunsdon Court team for a development tour and to talk about the value of specialist housing for older people.
Located on Lady Lane in Swindon, Blunsdon Court provides 24 low-maintenance apartments for over-60s, designed to support older people and help them to live later life to the fullest.
The development includes shared areas, maintained grounds and on-site support. Its location also provides excellent access to local shops and amenities.
Mr Stone said: “It was great to visit Blunsdon Courtand have a lively discussion with the homeowners about various topics, including local bus services.
"It’s clear that these types of retirement communities play a vital role in supporting older people to live lives to the fullest in their later years, and it was great to see this first-hand.”
House Manager Shelly Penning manages Blunsdon Court, supporting homeowners to live independent lives. She said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Will to Blunsdon Court and for him to hear from our friendly homeowners and experience the vibrant community we have here.
"Helping our customers to enjoy their later years in a safe and secure environment is our goal, and it was great to be able to showcase this to our local MP.”
The UK is experiencing a housing crisis, where there are not enough suitable homes to support the ageing population. McCarthy Stone says it is helping to meet this challenge and is calling on the Government to implement the recommendations of the Older People’s Housing Taskforce report, Our Future Homes, published in November 2024.
Mr Stone added: “Housing issues can mean older people can’t always access the support and care they need. Whilst the government is working to fix the housing crisis, with 1.5m new homes promised by 2030, my visit highlighted the value of developments like Blunsdon Court to the people that live there.”
