North Swindon MP Will Stone has strongly praised the Spending Review set out today - 11 June - by Chancellor Rachel Reeves in the Commons.
He particularly hailed what he termed a direct investment to reinvigorate Penhill.
Mr Stone said: “Today the Chancellor set out the Government’s commitment to British security and prosperity.
"The UK has so much potential, but we’ve been constrained for too long by underinvestment. Today the Chancellor, building on her budget last year has set us on a course toward a brighter, more prosperous and secure future.
"She has invested in the areas that matter most to the British People: Their Health, with £29bn a year, every year to rebuild our NHS and bring down waiting lists. Their homes, £39bn for affordable housing and an additional £10bn for Social Housing to replace lost stock.
"Their Security, investing 2.6% of GDP in Defence by 2027 and £30bn for Nuclear Power, alongside a recommitment to Great British Energy to insulate us from external price shocks.
"Their Transport, with £15bn for transport infrastructure across the country, all built with British Steel.
"And finally, their Communities , I have been lobbying the government on the need to reinvest in areas that have been forgotten for too long and was delighted to see the Chancellor announce a direct investment in Swindon North to reinvigorate Penhill.
"This forms part of a £20m project that will deliver tangible change in local communities, and I look forward to working to develop this further.
"I am proud that today the Labour Government have showcased our commitment to working people, the security of our nation and to building a brighter future for all.”
