The National Ice Skating Association (NISA) will be working alongside national leisure charity Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL) to launch new Skate UK courses at Link Leisure Centre Swindon in September.

GLL runs over 170 sport and leisure facilities and libraries on behalf of local authorities in London and elsewhere in England and is the largest operator of accessible sports and leisure centres in the UK. The partnership with NISA launches on 7 September when Link Centre will be able to enrol onto the Skate UK 1 to 8 programme.
Skate UK is the only Learn to Skate programme officially recognised by NISA, making it a key programme for young talent looking to begin a career in ice skating. The lessons are delivered byNISA accredited coaches and combine fun with learning, enabling skaters to gain fundamental skills through eight developmental stages.
Clive Seabrook, Ice Rink Manager at Link Leisure Centre Swindon, said: “We’re delighted to launch a brand new Learn to Skate programme at our ice rink and work alongside national governing body, NISA, to deliver the Skate UK 1-8 programme. We’re confident even more skaters will sign up and learn brand new skills alongside some of the best NISA qualified instructors, including four times British Senior pairs champion Andrew Seabrook, and two times British champion Zoe Wood.”
Link Centre Swindon’s current Learn to Skate programme has over 300 skaters each week. NISA and GLL are confident figures will continue to increase and hope numbers enrolled will grow to 500 by next April.
Becky Corne, Ice Skating Support Officer at NISA, said: “We’re really pleased to be working alongside such a well-known organisation which runs over 170 sports and leisure facilities. The new partnership between NISA and GLL is a fantastic opportunity and together we will continue to raise the awareness of ice skating in the UK.”
