Photography: ©CALYX Pictures - As the Swindon and Cricklade Railway celebrates its 40th anniversary these two photographs, taken by Swindon Link snapper Richard Wintle show just how far the development of the project has come.
Both photographs were taken from roughly the same viewpoint in Tadpole Lane; 40 years apart.
The first black and white image shows the start of preservaton work being carried out by members of the Swindon and Cricklade Railway Preservation Society - a group of enthusiasts that formed in November 1978.
And the picture on the right shows the remarkable progress over that time - with a new functioning station and track in place. The Swindon and Cricklade Railway has become a hugely popular tourist attraction, carrying thousands of passengers each year and hosting Christmas Santa specal trips which often sell out well in advance.
