A MAN who plundered more than half a million pounds from his mum has been told he is facing a jail term.

Guy Houghton abused his position of holding lasting power of attorney to take about £650,000 during 2007.

The 49-year-old pleaded guilty to a single count of fraud against his mum, who is in a care home in Braydon, when he appeared at Swindon Crown Court.

Oliver Willmott, prosecuting, said it was the Crown's case that he took about £650,000.

Judge Tim Mousley QC adjourned the case to a date to be fixed and released Houghton, who lives in Folkestone, on bail.

But he said: "When you come back to be sentenced it will be a prison sentence. There is no doubt about that. The only issue for me is how long it needs to be."
